Sports medicine is the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by athletes. California State University of Chico, California State University of Long Beach, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee State University, Temple University, United States Sports Academy, University of North Dakota, and the University of Oregon are all sports medicine degree colleges.
These schools all offer curriculum for either a bachelors or a masters degree in sports medicine. To be eligible you must have acquired an associates degree with a 2.5-2.75 GPA. Ranking depends on the individual university. Appropriate course work must have also been completed. This varies from university to university as well. Some have more specific requirements than others.
An enrollment application with the assigned fees must be sent to the college of choice as well as all college transcripts. Some universities require that all previous coursework be verified by the Approved Educational Credential Evaluator. A written essay by the student describing their motivation for pursuing a bachelors degree in sports medicine is a requirement by some schools as well.
Once enrolled some bachelor degree in sports medicine programs offer coursework and clinical training to be able to take the National Athletic Trainer's Association Certification Exam. If a student opts out of the clinical training they can apply their education to other areas.
After acquiring the bachelors degree and passing the certification exam, a student is eligible to go on to pursue a masters degree in sports medicine. The student may acquire
a PhD in sports medicine as well.
